Architecture > The Digital Hand

2013. Exploring traditional wood joinery with new tools for the modern maker. Digital fabrication tools were used to design a modular post-and-beam structure in which a series of "arms" are joined to a central post at variable angles to create a sweeping half-spiral form. The arms of each module interlock with other modules to create a free-standing wall. The arms are joined to the posts with a custom-designed hybrid half-lap and mortise-and-tenon connection milled on a 5-axis CNC router.
